Foot and Ankle Surgery

As an expert foot surgeon, the doctor takes great pride in his ability to restore proper function to an injured or deformed foot. Surgery is recommended only when it is the very best method to correct your condition. Our doctor performs the type of surgery that will most effectively correct your problem while minimizing pain and inconvenience. Some minor surgeries are performed within the comforts of our office, while other surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis at area hospitals. Our surgical services include bunion surgery, joint replacement, heel pain, correction of heel spurs, hammertoes, toe misalignment, surgery to correct diabetic complications and correction of arthritic conditions.

Bunions

Bunions are those unsightly enlargements or bumps that occur on the inside areas of your feet. A bunion deformity can cause a wide range of problems for the patient and consequently can involve a varied approach to treatment. An important point to consider in the understanding of this problem is that it is a progressive deformity. In other words, a bunion will in most cases worsen with time. No one can predict how fast the deformity will progress or to what extent it will cause debility or symptoms but most authorities would agree that sooner or later, it will worsen. Bunions, by nature, can cause pain in certain shoes, become a common site for arthritic changes, lead to secondary compensatory problems such as hammertoes or pain in the fat pad area. They may cause serious aesthetic or shoe wear concerns for certain individuals especially women who have to wear higher styled type shoes. Whatever the extent of involvement, a bunion deformity should warrant consideration by the patient and some level of professional evaluation by a foot specialist.

Hammertoes

A hammertoe is a dislocation of the joint of any one of the toes. It is described as a hammertoe because it bends under like a claw, or like the hammer in a piano. A corn or a callus usually will form either on the end of the toe or from shoe pressure on the prominent portion of the toe. Hammertoes are foot type related and often hereditary. They progress from flexible to rigid deformities and that is when they become painful as everyday shoes begin to cause inflammation and irritation. Home care includes trimming the corn or callus, the application of pads to relieve pressure and wearing shoes with a higher and wider toe box. and padding to reduce shoe A Podiatry consultation will determine the severity of your problem and treatment will include orthotics to compensate for the underlying biomechanical pathology, the use of special shoes and most commonly, a minor surgical procedure, performed under local anesthesia to remove the portion of bone causing the hammering.

Heel Pain (Heel Spurs)

Plantar fasciitis (or heel pain) is commonly traced to an inflammation on the bottom of the foot. Our practice can evaluate arch pain, and may prescribe customized shoe inserts called orthoses to help alleviate the pain.

Ingrown Toenails

Ingrown toenails are caused by the growth of the toenail into the surrounding nail fold. Symptoms include pain and swelling at the site. Chronic, painful ingrown toenails can usually be teated, permanently, with a simple procedure that prevents the regrowth of the ingrown portion of the nail. Read More

Custom Orthotics

Orthotics are shoe inserts that are custom made to fit each patient’s specific needs and to treat painful conditions such as flat feet, heel spurs, plantar fasciitis and neuromas. Orthotics are intended to correct an abnormal or irregular walking pattern, by slightly altering the angles at which the foot strikes a walking or running surface.
